77 AMC Gremlin By-Pass Oil Filter Installation Picture 6
This is the 1/4 inch NPT "T" that was supplied with the kit. The 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch reducer provided with the kit to allow the factory sending unit for the "Idiot Light" to be mounted since it was 1/8 NPT. Then another 1/4 NPT to 1/8 NPT reducer would have to be purchased to add the steel (for greater strength) 1/8 NPT short pipe to the other end of the "T" so it could be tightened securely into the engine block where the sensor for the "Idiot Light" was originally installed. The reason for the use of the 1/4 NPT "T" with the reducers was to add the sensor for the mechanical temperature gauge which was long and protruded down right into the "T". This was great as it would be right in the path of the oil flow to the inlet of the Amsoil By-Pass filter giving an accurate oil temperature. Then on one side of the "T" there was a hole drilled and tapped to 1/8 NPT to accept the 1/8 NPT "T" that also came with the kit This 1/8 "T" held the sensor for the mechanical oil pressure gauge which employs a rigid plastic tube that conducts the oil pressure to the gauge inside the car. Both conduits (oil pressure and oil temperature) were sent into the passenger compartment via the rubber boot that sealed the A/C hoses that go to the Evaporator inside the car. Then black RTV Silicone was applied to the boot for a inconspicuous, more airtight seal. The next pictures detail the fabrication and assembly of this fitting in more detail . . .
