A look at the underside of the valve cover. This valve cover had the gromets missing for the PCV valve and crankcase vent hose. These openings are 1 inch in diameter, which originally led me to believe this is where the massive amount of water in the engine entered. However, the entire area where the gromets vented were completely clogged up with solid sludge, so I believe most of the water must have entered by way of the valve cover since there was no gasket and it was left loose. I have already cleaned the openings for the crankcase vent (PCV) and starting to loosen some of the baked on sludge.
