67 Beetle Filter Installation
First I removed the generator pedestal. Then I center punched a mark in the center of the flange of the generator pedestal and dead center between the corners. Then I drilled it to be tapped for a 1/8 inch NPT fitting supplied in the BMK-11 Kit. By using this little drill press I can be sure the hole is drilled at a perfect angle. This will be the perfect place for oil to be returned to the engine from the By-Pass filter. By drilling the generator pedestal I can be sure no metal filings wind up in the engine case since I can clean this up easily before re-installing it on the engine. The only problem is the possibility of engine oil being blown out of the engine via the vent tube at high speed. To solve this problem I plan to add a 90 degree fitting inside the pedestal that will return the oil below the metal deflector plate.
