Things are plugging up just fine. Having a hard time figuring where the wiring harness is suppose to enter and exit the trunk area. Repair manuals don't show this sort of detail. May have to get help or pull out the cover on my '69 Beetle to see if it may be the same. The '69 Beetle has been somewhat re-wired by a previous owner (seems to be a pattern here) and they rigged it to use a standard blinker switch like on American cars, so it may not be much help.
